One South Molton
Enabling and Delivering for a Healthier Community
Who We Are
One South Molton (OSM) is a partnership of local authorities, community organisations, businesses, and health services working together to make life better for everyone in South Molton. We aim to improve the environmental, economic and social-wellbeing of all people in our community.
People’s wellbeing is closely linked to their surroundings, social connections, and access to essential resources. When everyone can take part in community life, health improves, and people thrive.
Volunteers, councillors, professionals, and community members all play a role in creating positive change and collaborate to find solutions to our community’s most pressing challenges. We believe that a community that supports its most vulnerable members is a healthy and resilient one.
To understand our impact, we listen to residents, track data, and gather feedback. This helps us learn about our community and measure the difference we make.
What Matters to Our Community
A recent survey of 250 residents highlighted three main areas of concern:
Accessibility
Accessibility
- Transport. Public and individual needs
- Improve support for people with disabilities
- Enhance health and wellbeing activities
- Support youth and marginalised through engagement programmes
- Available support services
- Ensuring activities are welcoming and inclusive
Affordability
Affordability
- Affordable local retail
- Overcoming cost barriers
- Affordable care and respite
- Support long term economic growth for a thriving inclusive town
Amenity
Amenity
- Safe engaging spaces for young people
- Tackle ASB and drug misuse
- Childcare provision
- Improve parking and infrastructure (pavements etc)
- Improve town cleanliness
- Foster a more inclusive community
These concerns broadly reflect the Indices of Multiple Deprivation and align with broader issues like lower income levels, health challenges, and perceptions of rising crime. Many residents also feel there’s not enough communication from local authorities on matters that affect them.
What’s On

Aerobics at Sellick
“This is the third time One South Molton has teamed up with North Devon Homes Community Centre to bring activities to the community. As part of the One South Molton Wellbeing offering, Lynda—an experienced rehabilitative exercise coach—hosts Aerobics Sessions that welcome all fitness and mobility levels. They’re fun, friendly, and open to everyone!”

Wellbeing Cafe
The Wellbeing Café has been running from the Amory Centre since August—a warm, welcoming space designed for connection, conversation, and community. Supported by the Wellbeing Team at South Molton Medical Centre the café is not just a place to meet new people, but a space shaped and led by those who visit.

Death Café
The Death Café was started by one of our Forum members. It offers a welcoming space for people to explore and discuss the often difficult topic of death and dying. One South Molton supports the community to develop solutions to challenges they face and are proud to support the Death Café.

Together Devon
“Together Devon visits the Amory Centre once a month, giving people the chance to chat informally with a Drug and Alcohol Worker about any concerns they have—whether for themselves or someone else. This makes it easier to get support without having to travel to Barnstaple for an initial inquiry.”

The South Molton Youth Sport Partnership seeks to creating a central hub to promote youth sport and activity in and around South Molton — a place where families can discover what’s on, get access to support, and connect with inclusive opportunities, especially for those with SEN or complex needs. We’re also working to help remove financial barriers to participation, so no child misses out.
